Sustainable luxury might sound like a trend, but thereโ€™s real value in the small steps some cruise operators are taking. Over time, these efforts can add up to something meaningful, especially in environmentally sensitive places like the Galapagos Islands. Thatโ€™s exactly where Golden Galapagos is stepping in, bringing a more responsible approach to high-end travel with carbon-neutral cruising and a brand-new ship.

A luxury cruise through the Galapagos is already a dream experience, but making that journey more eco-friendly takes it to another level. Golden Galapagos has positioned itself as a leader in this space, becoming the first cruise operator in the region to offer carbon-neutral voyages. The company also earned Certified B Corporation status, showing a broader commitment to sustainability beyond just its ships.

Of course, carbon-neutral doesnโ€™t mean completely emission-free. Instead, it means the company works to offset its carbon footprint through a mix of strategies. That includes improving energy efficiency with advanced battery systems, upgrading waste management onboard, and eliminating single-use plastics. Even small details, like switching to eco-friendly lighting at night, play a role. Beyond the ships, the company also supports local communities in the Galapagos, including funding scholarships for students.

The latest step in this journey is the introduction of a new vessel called Monique. Itโ€™s one of the newest catamarans operating in the region and is designed to be among the most environmentally friendly as well. With its maiden voyage just getting underway, it represents a big leap forward in blending sustainability with comfort.

Monique features hybrid propulsion to reduce fuel consumption, along with solar panels and lithium batteries that help power onboard systems. Itโ€™s a small ship, carrying no more than 16 guests, which creates a more personal and intimate experience. The nearly one-to-one crew-to-guest ratio means you get highly attentive service throughout the trip.

The layout is designed to make the most of the surroundings. Thereโ€™s a front observation area and a panoramic lounge on the main deck, a shaded terrace on the upper deck for taking in the views, and open-air spaces on the sky deck that let you fully enjoy the scenery.

Even with its strong focus on sustainability, the ship doesnโ€™t compromise on luxury. Guests can still enjoy features like a whirlpool, an outdoor bar, al fresco dining, and beautifully designed suites that offer a high level of comfort.

As for pricing, trips aboard Monique start at just over $4,000 per person for a three-night journey and can go up to around $15,590 for a 14-night experience, with several options in between depending on how long you want to stay.
